Leadership in Dallas

Our executive director, staff, alumni, board members and partners are committed to building a stronger Dallas by supporting and developing our AmeriCorps members as leaders in their schools and community.

Tiarra Thomas, Interim Executive Director

Tiarra L. Thomas, MPA, is the Interim Executive Director of City Year Dallas, where she leads the site’s strategy, daily operations, and fundraising efforts. Since joining the organization, she has helped double private annual revenue to more than $2 million and strengthened partnerships across the nonprofit, corporate, and philanthropic sectors. Her work has expanded City Year Dallas’ capacity to support Âé¶¹¹ú²ú campuses needing additional support in Dallas ISD, DeSoto ISD, and Uplift Education.

Prior to joining City Year Dallas, Tiarra served as Assistant Director of Development and Special Projects at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, where she managed the identification and cultivation of leadership-level prospects and supported the university’s domestic and international fundraising efforts.

In addition to her work at City Year Dallas, Tiarra serves as President of the CWRU African American Alumni Association and sits on the Board of Directors for New Journey Church, advising on strategic initiatives.

She holds a B.A. in English from Case Western Reserve University and a Master of Public Administration and Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Cleveland State University.

Alex McCoy, Managing Director of Impact

headshot of Alex McCoy the Managing Director of Impact with City Year DallasAlex McCoy serves as Managing Director of Impact for City Year Dallas. Alex started her career in education in 2011 as a Teach for America corps member in San Antonio, where she taught fifth grade. In August 2013, Alex moved back home to the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metroplex to work in the Dallas ISD, first teaching middle school math and science before subsequently being elevated to Campus Instructional Coach. For the past four years, Alex has served in various district-level roles in Dallas ISD, including most recently, where she served as a key member of the team championing professional development districtwide for teachers and principals.

Alex joined City Year Dallas in late 2020 to lead our impact team comprised of eight professionals and overseeing our program across our seven partner schools.

Katherine Washington, People Experience Director

headshot of Katherine Washington the People Experience Director with City Year DallasKatherine has served at City Year Dallas for the past six years in various roles. Prior to becoming People Experience Director, she served as an Impact Manager, Impact Director and AmeriCorps Member Experience Director. At the core of each of these roles is ensuring people have a joyous and purposeful experience. Katherine puts a high value on relationships and trust, which led her to her most recent role as the People Experience Director, overseeing alumni engagement, AmeriCorps member and staff experience and onboarding.

Prior to joining City Year, she dabbled in a range of non-profit experiences, including as Shelter Manager for a women’s domestic violence shelter, teaching life skills courses for parents working through Child Protective Services and providing case management for the homeless population.

Katherine was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, but grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, until moving to Texas to attend graduate school for Social Work. Life is complete with the perfect baby girl, partner in life and family who always keeps things interesting!

Boomer Wijeyesinghe, Operations Director

Boomer Wijeyesinghe currently serves as the Operations Director for City Year Dallas, where he leads the systems, processes, and operational strategy that enable AmeriCorps members and staff to deliver high-impact service across the city. Before stepping into this role, Boomer served as an Impact Manager, supporting and developing teams of AmeriCorps members and guiding school-based service to drive strong student outcomes.

Prior to joining City Year Dallas, Boomer taught Algebra I for four years at Thomas Jefferson High School in northwest Dallas. A proud Teach For America alum, he brings firsthand experience from the classroom and a deep commitment to educational equity. He also serves as a Policy Consultant for The Commit Partnership.

Born and raised in Maryland, Boomer has called Dallas home for the past ten years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Statistics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master’s in Education with a concentration in Mathematics from Southern Methodist University. In his free time, he enjoys visiting local parks with his dog, Max, and is a fan of the Dallas Stars.
